Veterans have lots of options to chooose from today when trying to decide which college to attend. One of our goals at College Factual is to give you as much information as we can - such as our “Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for Agriculture” ranking - to help you make that decision.
In 2020-2021, 3,370 people earned their degree in general agriculture, making the major the 157th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, general agriculture graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $36,894 and had an average of $20,543 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Plains States region, there were 418 general agriculture graduates with average earnings and debt of $34,991 and $18,919 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for Agriculture” ranking, we looked at 12 colleges that offer a degree in general agriculture. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality general agriculture programs as well as strong veteran support.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the general agriculture program at the school, veteran affordability, and veteran population. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend South Dakota State University. The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for Agriculture. Located in Brookings, South Dakota, this fairly large public school handed out 75 diplomas to qualified ’s agriculture students in 2020-2021.
South Dakota State also made our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list, coming in at #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS].Of the 11,405 students enrolled at South Dakota State University, 369 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of the 12 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in the Plains States Region for Agriculture that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Nebraska - Lincoln landed the #2 spot on the list. University of Nebraska - Lincoln is a public institution located in Lincoln, Nebraska. The school has a large population, and it awarded 36 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UNL, the school also landed the #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] spot in our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” ranking.According to our most recent data, University of Nebraska - Lincoln supports 25,108 students, and 690 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 344 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Located in Sioux Center, Iowa, this small private not-for-profit school handed out 4 diplomas to qualified ’s agriculture students in 2020-2021.
