Biotechnology is the 174th most popular major in the country with 3,911 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, biotechnology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $52,907 and had an average of $20,555 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 247 biotechnology graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,691 and $20,250 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value Biotech Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking looked at 10 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in biotechnology. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent biotechnology programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

Out of the 10 schools in the Best Value Biotech Schools in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center landed the #1 spot on the list. Out of the 10 schools in the Best Value Biotech Schools in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Houston landed the #2 spot on the list. University of Houston is located in Houston, Texas and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 71 ’s biotech degrees to qualified students.

In addition to being on our southwest region biotech students list, UH has also earned the #2 rank in our “Best Biotechnology Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. The estimated yearly cost for University of Houston is $13,721 for southwest region biotech students.
