With all of the options students have for higher education today, it can be tough to choose which direction to take. College Factual was founded, in part, to help students make the decision as to what would be the best school for them. Our “Best Value International Ed Schools” ranking is part of that endeavor.
International Education is the 302nd most popular major in the country with 293 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, international education graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $48,867 and had an average of $12,250 in loans still to pay off.
This year’s “Best Value International Ed Schools” ranking analyzed 14 colleges that offered a degree in international education. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent international education programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the international education program at the school and the cost to attend the school once aid has been awarded. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Top 14 Best Value Colleges for International Education
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Loyola University Chicago. The school came in at #1 for the Best Value International Ed Schools. Located in Chicago, Illinois, this fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 15 diplomas to qualified ’s international ed students in 2020-2021.
Loyola Chicago also took the #6 spot in our “Best International Education Schools” ranking. It costs about $36,434 for International Ed students per year to attend Loyola University Chicago.
Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 85%. The school has an impressive undergrad student loan default rate. It’s only 2.7%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%.

Out of the 14 schools in the Best Value International Ed Schools that were part of this year’s ranking, Teachers College at Columbia University landed the #2 spot on the list. This small school is located in New York, New York, and it awarded 70 ’s international ed degrees in 2020-2021.
Teachers College did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our “Best International Education Schools” list.
The undergrad student loan default rate at the school is 1.1%, which is quite low when compared to the national default rate of 10.1%. The impressive undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio of to 1 means that students may have more opportunities to work more closely with their professors than they would at other schools.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Lehigh University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Best Value International Ed Schools list. Lehigh is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school situated in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. It awarded 6 ’s international ed degrees in 2020-2021.
Lehigh also made our “Best International Education Schools” list, coming in at #5. The estimated yearly cost for Lehigh is $34,384 for International Ed students.

Sam Houston State University landed the #6 spot on the 2023 Best Value International Ed Schools ranking. Located in Huntsville, Texas, this large public school awarded 7 diplomas to qualified ’s international ed students in 2020-2021.
SHSU not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #14 on our “Best International Education Schools” list. It costs about $15,035 for International Ed students per year to attend SHSU.

Northern Arizona University ranked #7 on this year’s Best Value International Ed Schools list. This large school is located in Flagstaff, Arizona, and it awarded 7 ’s international ed degrees in 2020-2021.

Vanderbilt University is located in Nashville, Tennessee and, has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 12 ’s international ed degrees to qualified students.
Vanderbilt also took the #7 spot in our “Best International Education Schools” ranking. It costs about $19,970 for international ed students per year to attend Vanderbilt University.
