When it comes to choosing a college, veterans have a lot of options - but not all of them are good. Our mission at College Factual is to arm you with as much information as we can to help you make that decision. Our “Most Veteran Friendly in West Virginia for Visual & Performing Arts” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.
With 149,215 degrees handed out in 2020-2021, visual and performing arts is the 10th most popular major in the United States. In 2019-2020, visual and performing arts graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $26,700 and had an average of $25,051 in loans still to pay off.
Across West Virginia, there were 405 visual and performing arts graduates with average earnings and debt of $24,509 and $24,667 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in West Virginia for Visual & Performing Arts” ranking, we looked at 4 colleges that offer a degree in visual and performing arts. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent visual and performing arts programs, but they also offer a lot of support to veterans and active service members.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as veteran satisfaction, veteran affordability, and overall quality of the visual and performing arts program at the school. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

West Virginia University is located in Morgantown, West Virginia and, has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 241 ’s visual and performing arts degrees to qualified students.

Out of the 4 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in West Virginia for Visual & Performing Arts that were part of this year’s ranking, Shepherd University landed the #2 spot on the list. This small school is located in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and it awarded 24 ’s visual and performing arts degrees in 2020-2021.
Shepherd University did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.According to our most recent data, Shepherd University supports 3,159 students, and 152 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 78 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $6,177. In addition to receiving other benefits, 20 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

Out of the 4 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in West Virginia for Visual & Performing Arts that were part of this year’s ranking, Marshall University landed the #3 spot on the list. Marshall University is a fairly large public school situated in Huntington, West Virginia. It awarded 47 ’s visual and performing arts degrees in 2020-2021.
Marshall University not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Among the 11,958 students enrolled at Marshall University, 406 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 128 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $3,840. In addition to receiving other benefits, 10 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Marshall University offers credit for military training for eligible students.

Concord University is a public institution located in Athens, West Virginia. The school has a small population, and it awarded 27 ’s degrees in 2020-2021.
