Colleges with NCAA golf teams are limited, and can be fairly competitive. The season takes place in both the fall and spring when the weather is nice. Typical schedules have tournaments in September and October, and then pick back up in April and May. DI championships are played in late May or early June, and the winners of these championships sometimes go on to play golf professionally.
Division I and II teams may begin recruiting for their teams early. As colleges are limited in the amount of athletic scholarships they can give, players on a team often split scholarships, so you are more likely to receive a partial, not full scholarship.
Division III teams do not offer athletic scholarships, nor do they do much recruiting, although academic scholarships and other financial aid may be available. These may be a good pick for you if you want to try out for a team.
