Our mission at College Factual is to arm you with as much information as we can to help you make that decision. Our Best Colleges for Veterans in Utah ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.

Our analysis looked at 17 schools in Utah to determine which ones were the best for veterans and active service men and women. To come up with this ranking, we look at more than 20 factors that are all objective measurements. These factors include percentage of costs covered by the GI Bill®, whether or not the school has a student's veteran organization, and the school's overall quality.

Salt Lake City, Utah

University of Utah tops this year’s ranking as the best school for veterans in Utah. University of Utah is a large public school located in Salt Lake City, Utah that handed out 8,473 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.

Among the 33,081 students enrolled at U of U, 988 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 723 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $9,580. During this same period, 39 students received scholarships through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

The school has an impressive student loan default rate. It’s only 2.6%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%. U of U also took the #4 spot in our Best Schools in Utah rankings.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Brigham Young University - Provo. The school came in at #2 in Utah on this year’s best for vets ranking. Located in Provo, Utah, the large private not-for-profit school awarded 8,094 diplomas to qualified bachelor’s degree students in 2019-2020.

According to our most recent data, BYU supports 36,461 students, and 338 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 220 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $3,788. BYU does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

Students who start out at the school are likely to stick around. The freshman retention rate is 92%. BYU also made our Best Schools in Utah list, coming in at #1.

Utah State University

Logan, Utah

The excellent bachelor’s degree programs at Utah State University helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best schools for veterans in Utah. Located in Logan, Utah, the large public school awarded 6,560 diplomas to qualified bachelor’s degree students in 2019-2020.

Of the 27,691 students enrolled at USU, 524 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 295 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $6,961. In addition to receiving other benefits, 17 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. USU does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Weber State University. It ranked #4 on our 2021 Best Colleges for Veterans in Utah list. Ogden, Utah is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out bachelor’s degrees to 5,614 students in 2019-2020.

Our most recent data shows that 841 of the 29,596 students enrolled at WSU were GI Bill® students, of which 531 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $4,539. WSU does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

Salt Lake City, Utah

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Western Governors University. The school came in at #5 in Utah on this year’s best for vets ranking. Western Governors University is a large private not-for-profit school located in Salt Lake City, Utah that handed out 42,484 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.

Our most recent data shows that 7,754 of the 147,866 students enrolled at WGU were GI Bill® students, of which 5,005 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average tuition and fees award for the Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients was $4,711. On top of their other funding sources, 2 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

The low student loan default rate of 4.1% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%. WGU did well in our overall quality rankings, too. It placed #2 on our Best Schools in Utah list.

Utah Valley University ranked #6 on this year’s Best Colleges for Veterans in Utah list. UVU is located in Orem, Utah and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 6,350 bachelor’s degrees to qualified undergraduates.

Among the 40,936 students enrolled at UVU, 798 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 498 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $4,872. Students may be able to receive credit for their military training, depending on their background.

With a ranking of #7, Southern Utah University did quite well on the 2021 Best Colleges for Veterans in Utah list. Southern Utah University is a fairly large public school located in Cedar City, Utah that handed out 2,679 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.

Of the 12,582 students enrolled at Southern Utah University, 423 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 306 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Our most recent data shows that 78 of the 1,849 students enrolled at Westminster College Salt Lake were GI Bill® students, of which 63 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
