Out of all the majors we analyze each year, mathematics was ranked #25 in the country. In fact 5,415,716 bachelor's degrees were handed out in 2021-2022. Of those degrees, 750,590 went to students in the Great Lakes region of the United States.
For this year's Best Value Bachelor's Degree Colleges for Mathematics in the Great Lakes Region ranking, we looked at 41 colleges that offer a bachelor's in math. When talking about the 'best value', we do not simply mean those with the lowest price. We are more focused on math schools that offer a high quality education at a price lower that other schools of similar academic excellence.
When calculating average cost, we take tuition, fees, room and board, books and supplies, and other related expenses into account. We then subtract the average financial aid award. The is meant to give you an idea of how much money you'll need to pay out-of-pocket through loans, external scholarships, or other methods. Your cost may be different from the average one, depending on your income and other factors.

The #3 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Indiana University - East. IU East is a small public school located in the rural area of Richmond.

Purdue University - Main Campus earned the #4 spot in our 2024 rankings. Purdue is a fairly large public school located in the small city of West Lafayette. Purdue not only placed well in our value rankings. It is also #8 on our Best Mathematics Schools in the Great Lakes Region list.
It takes the average student at Purdue about 4.3 years to graduate, and the estimated yearly cost for the school is $28,080. University of Wisconsin - La Crosse earned the #5 spot in our 2024 rankings. Located in the city of La Crosse, UW - La Crosse is a public college with a large student population.

Our rankings recognize Purdue University Northwest as the #9 school in this year's rankings. Purdue Northwest is a medium-sized public school located in the suburb of Hammond.
