This year's Best Education Colleges for Non-Traditional Students in the Southeast Region ranking analyzed 161 colleges that offered a bachelor's degree in education. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent education programs, but they also offer a lot of support to non-traditional students.
Some of the factors we look at when determining these rankings are overall quality of the education program at the school, affordability, and non-traditional population. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Athens State University has taken the #1 spot in this year's education ranking for non-traditional students. Athens State University is a small public school located in the town of Athens.
About 1.9% of Athens State University students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. 1,673 students at Athens State University are exclusively online. About 1,626 of the students at Athens State University are attending part time.
Our rankings recognize University of Florida as the #2 school in this year's rankings. Located in the city of Gainesville, UF is a public college with a fairly large student population. UF did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #1 on our Best Colleges for Education in the Southeast Region list.

University of Central Florida earned the #3 spot in our 2021 rankings. UCF is a fairly large public school located in the suburb of Orlando. In addition to being on our best for non-traditional students list, UCF has also earned the #2 rank in our Best Colleges for Education in the Southeast Region ranking.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 1.3%. There are approximately 28,807 students at UCF that take at least one class online. There are roughly 23,575 part time students in attendance at UCF.
Lee University earned the #4 spot in our 2021 rankings. Lee University is a small private not-for-profit school located in the small city of Cleveland. As a testament to the quality of education it offers, Lee University also is in the top 10% of our Best Colleges for Education in the Southeast Region ranking.
About 1.2% of Lee University students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. 552 of Lee University students are exclusively distance learners. There are roughly 1,303 part time students in attendance at Lee University.
The #5 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Florida Atlantic University. Located in the city of Boca Raton, FAU is a public school with a fairly large student population. In addition to being on our bet for non-traditional students list, FAU is in the top 15% of all schools on our Best Colleges for Education in the Southeast Region list.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 1.4%. There are approximately 14,436 students at FAU that take at least one class online. About 11,860 of the students at FAU are attending part time.
The #6 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Florida International University. FIU is a very large public school located in the large suburb of Miami. On top of its placing in our non-traditional rankings, FIU also did well on our Best Colleges for Education in the Southeast Region list. It's in the top 10% of all schools reviewed in that analysis.
About 2.0% of FIU students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. Approximately 21,632 students take at least one class online at FIU. 22,664 students are part time.

Florida State University comes in at #7 in this year's ranking. Florida State is a fairly large public school located in the city of Tallahassee. As a testament to the quality of education offered at Florida State, the school also landed the #4 rank in our Best Colleges for Education in the Southeast Region ranking.

East Carolina University comes in at #9 in this year's ranking. ECU is a very large public school located in the city of Greenville. ECU also claimed a spot on our Best Colleges for Education in the Southeast Region list. It's in the top 10% of all schools in this category.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 1.7%. Approximately 12,522 students take at least one class online at ECU. There are roughly 7,199 part time students in attendance at ECU.
The #10 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Western Carolina University. Located in the distant town of Cullowhee, WCU is a public school with a fairly large student population. WCU also claimed a spot on our Best Colleges for Education in the Southeast Region list. It's in the top 15% of all schools in this category.
The student loan default rate at WCU is lower than is typical, just 2.3% of students default in three years. There are approximately 3,568 students at WCU that take at least one class online. About 2,712 of the students at WCU are attending part time.
North Carolina State University comes in at #11 in this year's ranking. Located in the city of Raleigh, NC State is a public school with a fairly large student population.
