In 2019-2020, 32,905 people earned their degree in history, making the major the 30th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, history graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $29,593 and had an average of $23,490 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Middle Atlantic region, there were 5,621 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $30,047 and $24,400 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 4,782 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $39,278 and $24,587 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value History Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Middle Atlantic Region” ranking looked at 111 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in history. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality history programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
