History is the 30th most popular major in the country with 32,905 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, history graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $29,593 and had an average of $23,490 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Middle Atlantic region, there were 5,621 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $30,047 and $24,400 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 560 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $60,887 and $46,998 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value History Schools for a Master’s in the Middle Atlantic Region” ranking analyzed 44 colleges that offered a degree in history. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent history programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
