Veterans have lots of options to chooose from today when trying to decide which college to attend. One of our goals at College Factual is to give you as much information as we can - such as our “Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for History” ranking - to help you make that decision.
In 2020-2021, 32,731 people earned their degree in history, making the major the 30th most popular in the United States. In 2019-2020, history graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $30,467 and had an average of $23,587 in loans still to pay off.
Across Virginia, there were 1,502 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $30,994 and $24,301 respectively.
For this year’s “Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for History” ranking, we looked at 15 colleges that offer a degree in history. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality history programs as well as strong veteran support.

Top 15 Best History Colleges for Veterans in Virginia
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend William & Mary. The school came in at #1 for the Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for History. William & Mary is a medium-sized public school situated in Williamsburg, Virginia. It awarded 130 ’s history degrees in 2020-2021.
William & Mary not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #[COLLEGE_QUALITY_RANK_ALL_LEVELS] on our “[COLLEGE_QUALITY_NAME_ALL_LEVELS]” list.Among the 8,939 students enrolled at William & Mary, 531 are GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of the 15 schools in the Most Veteran Friendly in Virginia for History that were part of this year’s ranking, George Mason University landed the #4 spot on the list. This large school is located in Fairfax, Virginia, and it awarded 124 ’s history degrees in 2020-2021.
