For this year's Best Psychology Colleges for Non-Traditional Students in the Plains States Region ranking, we looked at 66 colleges that offer a bachelor's in psychology. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent psychology programs, but they also offer a lot of support to non-traditional students.

Walden University tops the 2021 list of our schools in the Plains States Region that are best for non-traditional psychology students. Located in the large city of Minneapolis, Walden University is a private for-profit school with a very large student population.
The school has a low student loan default rate of 1.1%. There are approximately 46,455 students at Walden University and they are all exclusively distance learners. 27,673 of Walden University students are attending part time.
Our rankings recognize Capella University as the #2 school in this year's rankings. Capella University is a very large private for-profit school located in the large city of Minneapolis.
About 1.1% of Capella University students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. All 38,716 students take classes exclusively online at Capella University. About 30,933 of the students at Capella University are attending part time.
University of Minnesota - Twin Cities comes in at #3 in this year's ranking. UMN Twin Cities is a fairly large public school located in the large city of Minneapolis. In addition to being on our best for non-traditional students list, UMN Twin Cities has also earned the #1 rank in our Best Colleges for Psychology in the Plains States Region ranking.
The student loan default rate at UMN Twin Cities is lower than is typical, just 0.6% of students default in three years. There are approximately 21,237 students at UMN Twin Cities that take at least one class online. 13,655 students are part time.

Metropolitan State University comes in at #4 in this year's ranking. Located in the city of Saint Paul, Metro State is a public college with a medium-sized student population.
About 1.4% of Metro State students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. There are approximately 2,941 students at Metro State that take at least one class online. There are roughly 4,032 part time students in attendance at Metro State.
The #5 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Peru State College. Located in the rural area of Peru, Peru State is a public school with a small student population.

Hamline University earned the #6 spot in our 2021 rankings. Hamline is a small private not-for-profit school located in the large city of Saint Paul. Hamline excels when it comes to major quality. University of Iowa landed the #7 spot in our 2021 best psychology schools for non-traditional students. Iowa is a fairly large public school located in the city of Iowa City. The student loan default rate at UNL is lower than is typical, just 0.5% of students default in three years. There are approximately 13,905 students at UNL that take at least one class online. There are roughly 3,376 part time students in attendance at UNL.
University of Minnesota - Duluth earned the #10 spot in our 2021 rankings. Located in the small city of Duluth, UMN Duluth is a public college with a medium-sized student population.
About 0.4% of UMN Duluth students default on their loans in three years, which is lower than average. There are approximately 4,332 students at UMN Duluth that take at least one class online. 1,623 students are part time.
