For this year's Best Visual & Performing Arts Colleges for Non-Traditional Students in the New England Region ranking, we looked at 31 colleges that offer a bachelor's in visual & performing arts. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent visual & performing arts programs, but they also offer a lot of support to non-traditional students.

Emerson College tops the 2021 list of our schools in the New England Region that are best for non-traditional visual & performing arts students. Located in the city of Boston, Emerson is a private not-for-profit school with a medium-sized student population. Emerson not only placed well in our non-traditional rankings. It is also #3 on our Best Colleges for Visual & Performing Arts in the New England Region list.
The student loan default rate at Emerson is lower than is typical, just 1.5% of students default in three years. 889 of Emerson students are exclusively distance learners. About 562 of the students at Emerson are attending part time.

The #2 spot in this year's ranking belongs to Boston University. Boston U is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the city of Boston. On top of its placing in our non-traditional rankings, Boston U also did well on our Best Colleges for Visual & Performing Arts in the New England Region list. It's in the top 20% of all schools reviewed in that analysis.

Wentworth Institute of Technology comes in at #3 in this year's ranking. Located in the large city of Boston, WIT is a private not-for-profit school with a small student population.
The student loan default rate at WIT is lower than is typical, just 0.9% of students default in three years. Approximately 737 students take at least one class online at WIT. About 384 of the students at WIT are attending part time.

The #4 spot in this year's ranking belongs to University of Rhode Island. URI is a fairly large public school located in the large suburb of Kingston.
