Our Best Colleges for Veterans in Maryland ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.

After analyzing 34 schools in Maryland, we came up with our list of those that offered the best educational experiences for veterans. To come up with this ranking, we look at more than 20 factors that are all objective measurements. These factors include percentage of costs covered by the GI Bill®, whether or not the school has a student's veteran organization, and the school's overall quality.

Towson University

Towson, Maryland

Our analysis found Towson University to be the best school for veterans in Maryland in this year’s ranking. Towson University is a large public school located in Towson, Maryland that handed out 5,726 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.

According to our most recent data, Towson supports 21,917 students, and 671 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 475 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $8,030. In addition to receiving other benefits, 11 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

The school has an impressive student loan default rate. It’s only 3.8%, which is much lower than the national rate of 10.1%. Towson also claimed a spot on our Best Schools in Maryland list. It’s in the top 15% of all schools in this category.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of Maryland Global Campus. The school came in at #2 in Maryland on this year’s best for vets ranking. This large public school is located in Adelphi, Maryland, and it awarded 13,002 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.

Our most recent data shows that 13,366 of the 58,526 students enrolled at UMGC were GI Bill® students, of which 12,647 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $4,330. On top of their other funding sources, 3361 students qualified for the Yellow Ribbon Program. UMGC does offer credit for military training for eligible students.

UMGC also took the #5 spot in our Best Schools in Maryland rankings.

College Park, Maryland

The excellent bachelor’s degree programs at University of Maryland - College Park helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best schools for veterans in Maryland. UMCP is located in College Park, Maryland and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 12,365 bachelor’s degrees to qualified undergraduates.

Of the 40,709 students enrolled at UMCP, 896 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 672 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. The average Post-9/11 GI Bill® award for tuition and fees at the school was $13,240. To help with additional expenses, 7 students received funds through the Yellow Ribbon Program. Eligible students may be able to receive credit for their military training.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Johns Hopkins University. The school came in at #5 in Maryland on this year’s best for vets ranking. Located in Baltimore, Maryland, the large private not-for-profit school awarded 9,265 diplomas to qualified bachelor’s degree students in 2019-2020.

Of the 28,890 students enrolled at Johns Hopkins, 583 were GI Bill® students, according to our most recent data. Out of that number, 556 were Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients. Mount St Mary’s University landed the #6 spot on the 2021 Best Colleges for Veterans in Maryland ranking. Mount St Mary’s University is a small private not-for-profit school located in Emmitsburg, Maryland that handed out 632 bachelor’s degrees in 2019-2020.

According to our most recent data, Salisbury supports 8,124 students, and 236 of those are GI Bill® students, of which 154 are Post-9/11 GI Bill® recipients.
