Medicine is the 54th most popular major in the country with 27,562 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, medicine graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $54,795 and had an average of $169,628 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Great Lakes region, there were 4,794 medicine graduates with average earnings and debt of $55,700 and $188,425 respectively. At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 4,794 medicine graduates with average earnings and debt of $74,428 and $121,375 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value Medicine Schools for a Doctorate in the Great Lakes Region” ranking, we looked at 20 colleges that offer a degree in medicine. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great medicine programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
