2022 Best Value Master’s Degree Colleges for Applied Mathematics in the Southwest Region

In 2019-2020, 10,462 people earned their degree in applied mathematics, making the major the 83rd most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, applied mathematics graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $55,528 and had an average of $22,646 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 755 applied mathematics graduates with average earnings and debt of $48,050 and $21,685 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 454 applied mathematics graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,078 and $37,227 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Applied Math Schools for a Master’s in the Southwest Region” ranking, we looked at 10 colleges that offer a degree in applied mathematics. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality applied mathematics programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

Rice University came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Applied Math Schools for a Master’s in the Southwest Region ranking. Houston, Texas is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out masters’s applied math degrees to 7 students in 2019-2020.
Rice also took the #1 spot in our “Best Applied Mathematics Master’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at Rice University are $47,913, but some majors have different tuition rates.
With a ranking of #10, Southern Methodist University did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Applied Math Schools for a Master’s in the Southwest Region list. SMU is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in Dallas, Texas. It awarded 60 masters’s applied math degrees in 2019-2020.
