In 2019-2020, 2,548 people earned their degree in urban and regional planning, making the major the 170th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, urban and regional planning graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $48,040 and had an average of $39,156 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 439 urban and regional planning graduates with average earnings and debt of $48,800 and $39,293 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 353 urban and regional planning graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,950 and $43,286 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value Urban Planning Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region” ranking, we looked at 15 colleges that offer a degree in urban and regional planning. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great urban and regional planning programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.

To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the urban and regional planning program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Located in Gainesville, Florida, this large public school handed out 25 degrees to qualified masters’s urban planning students in 2019-2020.
