2022 Best Value IS Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region

In 2019-2020, 18,368 people earned their degree in information science, making the major the 56th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, information science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $58,848 and had an average of $32,600 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 1,974 information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $57,725 and $33,240 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 502 information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,896 and $23,899 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value IS Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region” ranking looked at 11 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in information science. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great information science programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.

Out of the 11 schools in the Best Value IS Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Texas Tech University landed the #2 spot on the list. Lubbock, Texas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out bachelors’s IS degrees to 126 students in 2019-2020.

With a freshman retention rate of 87%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its students. The low student loan default rate of 4.7% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.
