General Engineering is the 78th most popular major in the country with 11,925 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, general engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,152 and had an average of $20,077 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 1,775 general engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $74,200 and $19,581 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 357 general engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,896 and $23,899 respectively.

Located in Tempe, Arizona, this large public school handed out 192 diplomas to qualified bachelors’s engineering students in 2019-2020.

As a testament to the quality of education offered at TCU, the school also landed the #1 spot in our “Best General Engineering Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. Located in Waco, Texas, this fairly large private not-for-profit school awarded 12 degrees to qualified bachelors’s engineering students in 2019-2020.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Baylor, the school also landed the #4 spot in our “Best General Engineering Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. It costs about $26,726 for Southwest Region Bachelor’s Degree Engineering students whose families make $0-$30k per year to attend Baylor University.
The school has an excellent freshman retention rate of 91%, which means students like the school well enough to return for a second year.
