2022 Best Value Master’s Degree Colleges for Biotechnology in the Great Lakes Region

Biotechnology is the 171st most popular major in the country with 3,585 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, biotechnology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $50,092 and had an average of $32,815 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Great Lakes region, there were 225 biotechnology graduates with average earnings and debt of $65,700 and $64,963 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 130 biotechnology graduates with average earnings and debt of $57,039 and $42,488 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Biotech Schools for a Master’s in the Great Lakes Region” ranking, we looked at 9 colleges that offer a degree in biotechnology. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality biotechnology programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

Eastern Illinois University ranked #6 on this year’s Best Value Biotech Schools for a Master’s in the Great Lakes Region list. Charleston, Illinois is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s biotech degrees to 1 students in 2019-2020.
In addition to being on our great lakes region master’s degree biotech students list, EIU has also earned the #8 rank in our “Best Biotechnology Master’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region” ranking. Rush University ranked #7 on this year’s Best Value Biotech Schools for a Master’s in the Great Lakes Region list. Rush University is located in Chicago, Illinois and, has a small student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 23 masters’s biotech degrees to qualified students.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Rush University, the school also landed the #7 spot in our “Best Biotechnology Master’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region” ranking.
