General Engineering is the 78th most popular major in the country with 11,925 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, general engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,152 and had an average of $20,077 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 2,718 general engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $63,108 and $18,564 respectively. At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 217 general engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $71,978 and $116,300 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region For Those Making $75-$110k” ranking looked at 12 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in general engineering. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent general engineering programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

WVU is a large school located in Morgantown, West Virginia that handed out 38 doctorate’s engineering degrees in 2019-2020.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Georgia. It ranked #3 on our 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region For Those Making $75-$110k list. UGA is a large public school situated in Athens, Georgia. It awarded 13 doctorate’s engineering degrees in 2019-2020.
UGA also made our “Best General Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list, coming in at #4. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at University of Georgia are $27,476.
Out of the 12 schools in the Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region For Those Making $75-$110k that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Arkansas landed the #4 spot on the list. Tennessee Technological University is located in Cookeville, Tennessee and, has a fairly large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 21 doctorate’s engineering degrees to qualified students.
