General English Literature is the 22nd most popular major in the country with 41,945 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, general English literature graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $27,525 and had an average of $23,628 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Great Lakes region, there were 4,960 general English literature graduates with average earnings and debt of $26,526 and $23,635 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 4,138 general English literature graduates with average earnings and debt of $39,075 and $25,381 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value English Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Great Lakes Region” ranking analyzed 104 colleges that offered a degree in general English literature. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent general English literature programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
