General English Literature is the 22nd most popular major in the country with 41,945 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, general English literature graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $27,525 and had an average of $23,628 in loans still to pay off.

Across the New England region, there were 3,750 general English literature graduates with average earnings and debt of $30,629 and $24,544 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,934 general English literature graduates with average earnings and debt of $41,041 and $24,492 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value English Schools for a Bachelor’s in the New England Region” ranking analyzed 64 colleges that offered a degree in general English literature. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great general English literature programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
