2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region
Students have lots of options to chooose from today when trying to decide which college to attend. College Factual has developed its “Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region” ranking as one item you can use to help make this decision.
In 2019-2020, 5,403 people earned their degree in library and information science, making the major the 124th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, library and information science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $41,496 and had an average of $36,654 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 1,114 library and information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,593 and $33,653 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 1,019 library and information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,950 and $43,286 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region” ranking analyzed 13 colleges that offered a degree in library and information science. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great library and information science programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.

The public school handed out masters’s library science degrees to 54 students in 2019-2020.

The school came in at #3 for the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region. University of South Carolina - Columbia is a large school located in Columbia, South Carolina that handed out 116 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.

The school came in at #5 for the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region. USF Tampa is located in Tampa, Florida and, has a large student population. Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College came in at #6 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region ranking. Baton Rouge, Louisiana is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s library science degrees to 43 students in 2019-2020.

University of North Carolina at Greensboro landed the #7 spot on the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region ranking. Greensboro, North Carolina is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s library science degrees to 135 students in 2019-2020.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UNC Greensboro, the school also landed the #10 spot in our “Best Library & Information Science Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking. With a ranking of #8, Valdosta State University did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region list. Valdosta State University is a fairly large public school situated in Valdosta, Georgia. It awarded 87 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.

Western Kentucky University did quite well in the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region ranking, coming in at #8. Western Kentucky University is a fairly large school located in Bowling Green, Kentucky that handed out 29 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.
WKU did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #11 on our “Best Library & Information Science Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at Western Kentucky University are $18,340, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
The University of Tennessee - Knoxville landed the #10 spot on the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region ranking. Knoxville, Tennessee is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s library science degrees to 100 students in 2019-2020.

The University of Alabama landed the #12 spot on the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region ranking. Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, this large public school awarded 92 diplomas to qualified masters’s library science students in 2019-2020.

University of Kentucky landed the #13 spot on the 2022 Best Value Library Science Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region ranking. This large school is located in Lexington, Kentucky, and it awarded 73 masters’s library science degrees in 2019-2020.
