In 2019-2020, 31,080 people earned their degree in mathematics, making the major the 32nd most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, mathematics graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $44,066 and had an average of $21,378 in loans still to pay off.

At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 22,096 mathematics graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,303 and $24,501 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value Math Schools for a Bachelor’s For Those Getting Aid” ranking, we looked at 424 colleges that offer a degree in mathematics. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality mathematics programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
