Forestry is the 187th most popular major in the country with 2,292 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, forestry graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $38,496 and had an average of $20,610 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 995 forestry graduates with average earnings and debt of $41,222 and $19,786 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 499 forestry graduates with average earnings and debt of $36,277 and $25,415 respectively.

The public school handed out bachelors’s forestry degrees to 23 students in 2019-2020.

ABAC Tifton also took the #12 spot in our “Best Forestry Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking. It costs about $6,933 for southeast region bachelor’s degree forestry students per year to attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Raleigh, North Carolina

Out of the 12 schools in the Best Value Forestry Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, North Carolina State University landed the #2 spot on the list. This large school is located in Raleigh, North Carolina, and it awarded 73 bachelors’s forestry degrees in 2019-2020.

NC State not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #1 on our “Best Forestry Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list. It costs about $16,458 for southeast region bachelor’s degree forestry students per year to attend North Carolina State University.

With a freshman retention rate of 94%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its students. The low student loan default rate of 2.9% is a good sign that students have an easier time paying off their loans than they might at other schools. For comparison, the national default rate is 10.1%.
