2022 Best Value Master’s Degree Colleges for Journalism in the Middle Atlantic Region

Journalism is the 62nd most popular major in the country with 14,528 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, journalism graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $31,042 and had an average of $24,628 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Middle Atlantic region, there were 2,171 journalism graduates with average earnings and debt of $31,591 and $26,937 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 465 journalism graduates with average earnings and debt of $60,887 and $46,998 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Journalism Schools for a Master’s in the Middle Atlantic Region” ranking looked at 10 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in journalism. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great journalism programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend St. Bonaventure University. It ranked #1 on our 2022 Best Value Journalism Schools for a Master’s in the Middle Atlantic Region list. Located in Saint Bonaventure, New York, this small private not-for-profit school awarded 42 diplomas to qualified masters’s journalism students in 2019-2020.
St. Bonaventure also made our “Best Journalism Master’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region” list, coming in at #7. Average graduate tuition and fees at St. Bonaventure are $14,850, but some majors have different tuition rates.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Morgan State University. The school came in at #2 for the Best Value Journalism Schools for a Master’s in the Middle Atlantic Region. Baltimore, Maryland is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s journalism degrees to 8 students in 2019-2020.
Morgan State not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #10 on our “Best Journalism Master’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at Morgan State are $17,339, but some majors have different tuition rates.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Temple University. It ranked #3 on our 2022 Best Value Journalism Schools for a Master’s in the Middle Atlantic Region list. Temple University is a large public school situated in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It awarded 10 masters’s journalism degrees in 2019-2020.

With a ranking of #6, Hofstra University did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Journalism Schools for a Master’s in the Middle Atlantic Region list. Hofstra University is a fairly large school located in Hempstead, New York that handed out 11 masters’s journalism degrees in 2019-2020.
In addition to being on our middle atlantic region master’s degree journalism students list, Hofstra has also earned the #8 rank in our “Best Journalism Master’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at Hofstra are $27,172.
American University came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Journalism Schools for a Master’s in the Middle Atlantic Region ranking. Washington, District of Columbia is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out masters’s journalism degrees to 38 students in 2019-2020.
The American University also made our “Best Journalism Master’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region” list, coming in at #5. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at The American University are $35,524.
Syracuse University ranked #8 on this year’s Best Value Journalism Schools for a Master’s in the Middle Atlantic Region list. Syracuse, New York is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out masters’s journalism degrees to 55 students in 2019-2020.
Syracuse not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #2 on our “Best Journalism Master’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at Syracuse University are $41,714, but some majors have different tuition rates.
Columbia University in the City of New York ranked #9 on this year’s Best Value Journalism Schools for a Master’s in the Middle Atlantic Region list. This large school is located in New York, New York, and it awarded 251 masters’s journalism degrees in 2019-2020.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Columbia, the school also landed the #1 spot in our “Best Journalism Master’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at Columbia are $51,194, but some majors have different tuition rates.
Georgetown University ranked #10 on this year’s Best Value Journalism Schools for a Master’s in the Middle Atlantic Region list. Georgetown is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in Washington, District of Columbia. It awarded 21 masters’s journalism degrees in 2019-2020.
Georgetown also took the #3 spot in our “Best Journalism Master’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at Georgetown University are $53,591.
