2022 Best Value Doctor’s Degree Colleges for Information Science

Information Science is the 56th most popular major in the country with 18,368 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, information science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $58,848 and had an average of $32,600 in loans still to pay off.
At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 176 information science graduates with average earnings and debt of $72,680 and $116,043 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value IS Schools for a Doctorate” ranking, we looked at 25 colleges that offer a degree in information science. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great information science programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the information science program at the school and the cost to attend the school once aid has been awarded. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

Top 25 Best Value Doctor’s Degree Colleges for Information Science
Out of the 25 schools in the Best Value IS Schools for a Doctorate that were part of this year’s ranking, Dakota State University landed the #1 spot on the list. Located in Madison, South Dakota, this small public school awarded 7 degrees to qualified doctorate’s IS students in 2019-2020.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Dakota State, the school also landed the #15 spot in our “Best Information Science Doctor’s Degree Schools” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at Dakota State University are $11,809, but some majors have different tuition rates.
Out of the 25 schools in the Best Value IS Schools for a Doctorate that were part of this year’s ranking, The University of Texas at Austin landed the #2 spot on the list. This large school is located in Austin, Texas, and it awarded 3 doctorate’s IS degrees in 2019-2020.
UT Austin also took the #11 spot in our “Best Information Science Doctor’s Degree Schools” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at The University of Texas at Austin are $22,886, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It ranked #3 on our 2022 Best Value IS Schools for a Doctorate list. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is located in Champaign, Illinois and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 13 doctorate’s IS degrees to qualified students.

Nova Southeastern University ranked #6 on this year’s Best Value IS Schools for a Doctorate list. This large school is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and it awarded 22 doctorate’s IS degrees in 2019-2020.

LIU Post landed the #13 spot on the 2022 Best Value IS Schools for a Doctorate ranking. Located in Brookville, New York, this fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 3 diplomas to qualified doctorate’s IS students in 2019-2020.
LIU Post not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #24 on our “Best Information Science Doctor’s Degree Schools” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at LIU Post are $23,479, but some majors have different tuition rates.
Robert Morris University came in at #14 in this year’s edition of the Best Value IS Schools for a Doctorate ranking. RMU is located in Moon Township, Pennsylvania and, has a small student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 11 doctorate’s IS degrees to qualified students.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at RMU, the school also landed the #18 spot in our “Best Information Science Doctor’s Degree Schools” ranking.

University at Albany ranked #15 on this year’s Best Value IS Schools for a Doctorate list. University at Albany is a public institution located in Albany, New York. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 3 doctorate’s degrees in 2019-2020.

New Jersey Institute of Technology landed the #18 spot on the 2022 Best Value IS Schools for a Doctorate ranking. NJIT is located in Newark, New Jersey and, has a fairly large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 1 doctorate’s IS degrees to qualified students.
