In 2019-2020, 38,958 people earned their degree in information technology, making the major the 46th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, information technology graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $39,044 and had an average of $25,781 in loans still to pay off.
At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 102 information technology graduates with average earnings and debt of $72,680 and $116,043 respectively.

Top 3 Best Value Doctor’s Degree Colleges for Information Technology
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Capella University. The school came in at #1 for the Best Value IT Schools for a Doctorate. Capella University is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 64 doctorate’s IT degrees to qualified students.
Capella University also took the #1 spot in our “Best Information Technology Doctor’s Degree Schools” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at Capella University are $14,767.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Dakota State University. It ranked #2 on our 2022 Best Value IT Schools for a Doctorate list. Located in Madison, South Dakota, this small public school awarded 9 degrees to qualified doctorate’s IT students in 2019-2020.
Dakota State did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #2 on our “Best Information Technology Doctor’s Degree Schools” list. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at Dakota State are $11,809.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Nova Southeastern University. It ranked #3 on our 2022 Best Value IT Schools for a Doctorate list. Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, this large private not-for-profit school awarded 5 diplomas to qualified doctorate’s IT students in 2019-2020.
NUS Florida also took the #3 spot in our “Best Information Technology Doctor’s Degree Schools” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at NUS Florida are $22,242.
