In 2019-2020, 14,055 people earned their degree in student counseling, making the major the 73rd most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, student counseling graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $43,174 and had an average of $42,631 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 4,111 student counseling graduates with average earnings and debt of $40,154 and $44,151 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 3,489 student counseling graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,950 and $43,286 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value Student Counseling Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region” ranking looked at 113 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in student counseling. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality student counseling programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
