2022 Best Value Doctor’s Degree Colleges for Optometry

In 2019-2020, 1,666 people earned their degree in optometry, making the major the 193rd most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, optometry graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $83,824 and had an average of $167,326 in loans still to pay off.
At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 1,666 optometry graduates with average earnings and debt of $72,680 and $116,043 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate” ranking looked at 19 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in optometry. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent optometry programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

New England College of Optometry is located in Boston, Massachusetts and, has a small student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 139 doctorate’s optometry degrees to qualified students.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Ferris State University. It ranked #2 on our 2022 Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate list. Located in Big Rapids, Michigan, this fairly large public school awarded 33 diplomas to qualified doctorate’s optometry students in 2019-2020.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend SUNY College of Optometry. The school came in at #3 for the Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate. SUNY Optometry is located in New York, New York and, has a small student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 99 doctorate’s optometry degrees to qualified students.
SUNY Optometry also took the #3 spot in our “Best Optometry Doctor’s Degree Schools” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at SUNY Optometry are $23,561.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of Pikeville. The school came in at #4 for the Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate. Pikeville, Kentucky is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctorate’s optometry degrees to 36 students in 2019-2020.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Northeastern State University. The school came in at #5 for the Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate. Located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, this medium-sized public school handed out 28 diplomas to qualified doctorate’s optometry students in 2019-2020.

University of Houston landed the #6 spot on the 2022 Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate ranking. UH is located in Houston, Texas and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 95 doctorate’s optometry degrees to qualified students.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at UH, the school also landed the #13 spot in our “Best Optometry Doctor’s Degree Schools” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at UH are $18,689, but some majors have different tuition rates.
Western University of Health Sciences ranked #7 on this year’s Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate list. Western University of Health Sciences is a small school located in Pomona, California that handed out 75 doctorate’s optometry degrees in 2019-2020.

University of Alabama at Birmingham came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate ranking. Located in Birmingham, Alabama, this large public school handed out 41 degrees to qualified doctorate’s optometry students in 2019-2020.
UAB also made our “Best Optometry Doctor’s Degree Schools” list, coming in at #14. Average graduate tuition and fees at University of Alabama at Birmingham are $19,188, but some majors have different tuition rates.
University of the Incarnate Word ranked #9 on this year’s Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate list. San Antonio, Texas is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctorate’s optometry degrees to 59 students in 2019-2020.
UIW also took the #17 spot in our “Best Optometry Doctor’s Degree Schools” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at UIW are $19,242.
With a ranking of #10, Salus University did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate list. Elkins Park, Pennsylvania is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctorate’s optometry degrees to 149 students in 2019-2020.

Nova Southeastern University did quite well in the 2022 Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate ranking, coming in at #12. Fort Lauderdale, Florida is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctorate’s optometry degrees to 87 students in 2019-2020.

University of California - Berkeley came in at #13 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Optometry Schools for a Doctorate ranking.
