Mathematics is the 32nd most popular major in the country with 31,080 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, mathematics graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $44,066 and had an average of $21,378 in loans still to pay off.

Across the New England region, there were 2,583 mathematics graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,079 and $22,062 respectively. At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 99 mathematics graduates with average earnings and debt of $73,889 and $109,372 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value Math Schools for a Doctorate in the New England Region For Those Making $0-$30k” ranking looked at 13 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in mathematics. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great mathematics programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
