Philosophy is the 81st most popular major in the country with 10,015 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, philosophy graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $29,067 and had an average of $22,199 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 1,669 philosophy graduates with average earnings and debt of $27,425 and $21,444 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 122 philosophy graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,950 and $43,286 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value Philosophy Schools for a Master’s in the Southeast Region” ranking, we looked at 17 colleges that offer a degree in philosophy. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality philosophy programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
