In 2019-2020, 53,722 people earned their degree in computer science, making the major the 19th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, computer science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,561 and had an average of $23,565 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 3,411 computer science graduates with average earnings and debt of $59,854 and $21,004 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 808 computer science graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,078 and $37,227 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value CompSci Schools for a Master’s in the Southwest Region” ranking looked at 14 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in computer science. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality computer science programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the computer science program at the school and the cost to attend the school once aid has been awarded. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.
