2022 Best Value Doctor’s Degree Colleges for General Engineering in the Middle Atlantic Region

In 2019-2020, 11,925 people earned their degree in general engineering, making the major the 78th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, general engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,152 and had an average of $20,077 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Middle Atlantic region, there were 2,147 general engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $55,507 and $21,746 respectively. At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 59 general engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $73,944 and $116,843 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Middle Atlantic Region” ranking looked at 7 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in general engineering. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality general engineering programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the general engineering program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

As a testament to the quality of education offered at Carnegie Mellon, the school also landed the #2 spot in our “Best General Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region” ranking. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at Carnegie Mellon University are $47,326.
Rochester Institute of Technology landed the #7 spot on the 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Middle Atlantic Region ranking. RIT is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in Rochester, New York. It awarded 12 doctorate’s engineering degrees in 2019-2020.
RIT also took the #3 spot in our “Best General Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Middle Atlantic Region” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at RIT are $50,442, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
