2022 Best Value Doctor’s Degree Colleges for General Engineering in the Southeast Region

Our “Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region” ranking is one tool we have developed to help in this regard.
In 2019-2020, 11,925 people earned their degree in general engineering, making the major the 78th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, general engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,152 and had an average of $20,077 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 2,718 general engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $63,108 and $18,564 respectively. At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 217 general engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $71,978 and $116,300 respectively.
This year’s “Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region” ranking looked at 10 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in general engineering. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great general engineering programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the general engineering program at the school. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Out of the 10 schools in the Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Louisiana Tech University landed the #1 spot on the list. Louisiana Tech University is located in Ruston, Louisiana and, has a fairly large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 8 doctorate’s engineering degrees to qualified students.

Out of the 10 schools in the Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Mississippi State University landed the #2 spot on the list. Mississippi State University is located in Mississippi State, Mississippi and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 24 doctorate’s engineering degrees to qualified students.
In addition to being on our southeast region doctor’s degree engineering students list, Mississippi State has also earned the #1 rank in our “Best General Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at Mississippi State are $23,950, but some majors have different tuition rates.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of Arkansas. The school came in at #3 for the Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region. University of Arkansas is a public institution located in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 40 doctorate’s degrees in 2019-2020.
UARK also took the #2 spot in our “Best General Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at UARK are $22,121, but some majors have different tuition rates.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Tennessee Technological University. It ranked #4 on our 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region list. Located in Cookeville, Tennessee, this fairly large public school awarded 21 diplomas to qualified doctorate’s engineering students in 2019-2020.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Tennessee Tech University, the school also landed the #6 spot in our “Best General Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking. You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend West Virginia University. It ranked #5 on our 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region list. WVU is located in Morgantown, West Virginia and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 38 doctorate’s engineering degrees to qualified students.
In addition to being on our southeast region doctor’s degree engineering students list, WVU has also earned the #3 rank in our “Best General Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at WVU are $26,154, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
University of Georgia came in at #6 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region ranking. University of Georgia is a large school located in Athens, Georgia that handed out 13 doctorate’s engineering degrees in 2019-2020.
UGA also made our “Best General Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list, coming in at #4. Average graduate tuition and fees at UGA are $27,476, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.
With a ranking of #7, University of Memphis did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region list. UofM is a public institution located in Memphis, Tennessee. The school has a large population, and it awarded 16 doctorate’s degrees in 2019-2020.
UofM also took the #9 spot in our “Best General Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking. Average graduate tuition and fees at University of Memphis are $14,202, but you may pay more or less depending on your major.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock ranked #8 on this year’s Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region list. University of Arkansas at Little Rock is a medium-sized public school situated in Little Rock, Arkansas. It awarded 8 doctorate’s engineering degrees in 2019-2020.
UA Little Rock not only placed well in this ranking. It is also #10 on our “Best General Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region” list. Although you might pay more or less depending on your area of study, average graduate tuition and fees at UA Little Rock are $14,884.
With a ranking of #9, University of South Florida - Main Campus did quite well on the 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region list. University of South Florida - Main Campus is located in Tampa, Florida and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 1 doctorate’s engineering degrees to qualified students.

Virginia Commonwealth University ranked #9 on this year’s Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region list. Virginia Commonwealth University is a large public school situated in Richmond, Virginia. It awarded 11 doctorate’s engineering degrees in 2019-2020.

Jackson State University landed the #10 spot on the 2022 Best Value Engineering Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region ranking. Jackson State is located in Jackson, Mississippi and, has a medium-sized student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 3 doctorate’s engineering degrees to qualified students.
