General Engineering is the 79th most popular major in the country with 11,796 degrees awarded in 2020-2021. In 2019-2020, general engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2017-2019, earned an average of $68,873 and had an average of $20,557 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southeast region, there were 2,586 general engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $62,738 and $21,037 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Engineering Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking, we looked at 39 colleges that offer a degree in general engineering. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality general engineering programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the general engineering program at the school. For more information, check out our ranking methodology.

Out of the 39 schools in the Best Value Engineering Schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Wake Technical Community College landed the #1 spot on the list. Wake Technical Community College is a large public school situated in Raleigh, North Carolina. It awarded 133 ’s engineering degrees in 2020-2021.
As a testament to the quality of education offered at Wake Technical Community College, the school also landed the #13 spot in our “Best General Engineering Schools in the Southeast Region” ranking. Louisiana Tech is a fairly large school located in Ruston, Louisiana that handed out 36 ’s engineering degrees in 2020-2021.

Located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, this large public school handed out 106 diplomas to qualified ’s engineering students in 2020-2021.
