With 313,362 degrees handed out in 2019-2020, nursing is the 3rd most popular major in the United States. In 2017-2018, nursing graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $67,065 and had an average of $26,282 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 39,179 nursing graduates with average earnings and debt of $66,645 and $23,719 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 21,016 nursing graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,896 and $23,899 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value Nursing Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region” ranking looked at 82 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in nursing. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality nursing programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the nursing program at the school. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

Out of the 82 schools in the Best Value Nursing Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Phoenix - Arizona landed the #1 spot on the list. University of Phoenix - Arizona is a large school located in Tempe, Arizona that handed out 789 bachelors’s nursing degrees in 2019-2020.
