With 313,362 degrees handed out in 2019-2020, nursing is the 3rd most popular major in the United States. In 2017-2018, nursing graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $67,065 and had an average of $26,282 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 39,179 nursing graduates with average earnings and debt of $66,645 and $23,719 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 5,999 nursing graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,078 and $37,227 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value Nursing Schools for a Master’s in the Southwest Region” ranking, we looked at 46 colleges that offer a degree in nursing. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality nursing programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

When determining these rankings, we looked at things such as overall quality of the nursing program at the school and the cost to attend the school once aid has been awarded. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.
