History is the 22nd most popular major in the country with 32,905 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, history graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $29,593 and had an average of $23,490 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 7,627 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $29,119 and $23,749 respectively. At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 166 history graduates with average earnings and debt of $71,978 and $116,300 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value History Schools for a Doctorate in the Southeast Region” ranking looked at 27 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in history. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent history programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
