In 2019-2020, 17,506 people earned their degree in film, video and photographic arts, making the major the 64th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, film, video and photographic arts graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $22,714 and had an average of $31,549 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 3,431 film, video and photographic arts graduates with average earnings and debt of $20,659 and $28,774 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,119 film, video and photographic arts graduates with average earnings and debt of $36,277 and $25,415 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value Film Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southeast Region” ranking, we looked at 46 colleges that offer a degree in film, video and photographic arts. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality film, video and photographic arts programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the film, video and photographic arts program at the school. See our ranking methodology to learn more.

Located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, this small public school awarded 71 diplomas to qualified bachelors’s film students in 2019-2020.
