Music is the 40th most popular major in the country with 27,047 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, music graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $25,639 and had an average of $28,653 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 2,964 music graduates with average earnings and debt of $33,126 and $28,647 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 1,633 music graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,896 and $23,899 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value Music Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region” ranking, we looked at 49 colleges that offer a degree in music. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent music programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

UT Rio Grande Valley is a large public school situated in Edinburg, Texas. It awarded 39 bachelors’s music degrees in 2019-2020.

UT Rio Grande Valley also took the #4 spot in our “Best Music Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. The yearly cost to attend The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is $4,514 for southwest region bachelor’s degree music students.

Houston, Texas

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend University of Houston. The school came in at #3 for the Best Value Music Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region. UH is a large public school situated in Houston, Texas. It awarded 66 bachelors’s music degrees in 2019-2020.

UH also took the #2 spot in our “Best Music Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. The yearly cost to attend University of Houston is $12,838 for Southwest Region Bachelor’s Degree Music students.

With a freshman retention rate of 86%, the school does an excellent job of retaining its students.
