In 2019-2020, 21,951 people earned their degree in chemistry, making the major the 44th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, chemistry graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $38,704 and had an average of $22,279 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Far Western US region, there were 4,245 chemistry graduates with average earnings and debt of $41,776 and $19,652 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 395 chemistry graduates with average earnings and debt of $59,319 and $48,880 respectively.

Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent chemistry programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
