Accounting is one of the most popular majors in the nation, ranking 8th of all the majors we analyze. In 2019-2020, 101,094 degrees were awarded to students with this major. In 2017-2018, accounting graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $44,557 and had an average of $26,381 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 12,724 accounting graduates with average earnings and debt of $44,268 and $25,156 respectively. At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 2,920 accounting graduates with average earnings and debt of $53,078 and $37,227 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value Accounting Schools for a Master’s in the Southwest Region” ranking looked at 54 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in accounting. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great accounting programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
