Accounting is one of the most popular majors in the nation, ranking 8th of all the majors we analyze. In 2019-2020, 101,094 degrees were awarded to students with this major. In 2017-2018, accounting graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $44,557 and had an average of $26,381 in loans still to pay off.
Across the Southwest region, there were 12,724 accounting graduates with average earnings and debt of $44,268 and $25,156 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 6,707 accounting graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,896 and $23,899 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value Accounting Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region” ranking, we looked at 90 colleges that offer a degree in accounting. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent accounting programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend The University of Texas of the Permian Basin. The school came in at #2 for the Best Value Accounting Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region. This medium-sized school is located in Odessa, Texas, and it awarded 49 bachelors’s accounting degrees in 2019-2020.
UT Permian Basin also took the #19 spot in our “Best Accounting Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. The estimated yearly cost for The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is $10,092 for southwest region bachelor’s degree accounting students.
Out of the 90 schools in the Best Value Accounting Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, West Texas A&M University landed the #3 spot on the list. This fairly large school is located in Canyon, Texas, and it awarded 37 bachelors’s accounting degrees in 2019-2020.

Out of the 90 schools in the Best Value Accounting Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Houston landed the #4 spot on the list. UH is a large public school situated in Houston, Texas. It awarded 337 bachelors’s accounting degrees in 2019-2020.
