With 101,094 degrees handed out in 2019-2020, accounting is the 8th most popular major in the United States. In 2017-2018, accounting graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $44,557 and had an average of $26,381 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southeast region, there were 24,469 accounting graduates with average earnings and debt of $43,343 and $28,520 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 11,766 accounting graduates with average earnings and debt of $36,277 and $25,415 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value Accounting Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southeast Region” ranking looked at 266 colleges that offer degrees in a bachelor’s in accounting. The schools that top this list are recognized because they have great accounting programs and cost less that schools of similar quality.
