In 2019-2020, 53,722 people earned their degree in computer science, making the major the 19th most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, computer science graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $66,561 and had an average of $23,565 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Plains States region, there were 3,769 computer science graduates with average earnings and debt of $64,148 and $20,969 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,296 computer science graduates with average earnings and debt of $39,786 and $25,576 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value CompSci Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Plains States Region” ranking, we looked at 41 colleges that offer a degree in computer science. Not only do the schools that top this list have excellent computer science programs, but they also cost less that schools of similar quality.
