In 2019-2020, 30,670 people earned their degree in electrical engineering, making the major the 31st most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, electrical engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $70,098 and had an average of $23,581 in loans still to pay off.
At the master’s degree level specifically, there were 9,791 electrical engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $56,398 and $43,194 respectively.
For this year’s “Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k” ranking, we looked at 214 colleges that offer a degree in electrical engineering. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality electrical engineering programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
To come up with these rankings, we looked at factors such as the cost to attend the school after aid is awarded and overall quality of the electrical engineering program at the school. Check out our ranking methodology for more information.

Out of the 214 schools in the Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k that were part of this year’s ranking, Massachusetts Institute of Technology landed the #1 spot on the list. Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a private not-for-profit institution located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 75 masters’s degrees in 2019-2020.
MIT did well in our major quality rankings, too. It placed #2 on our “Best Electrical Engineering Master’s Degree Schools” list. Average graduate tuition and fees at Massachusetts Institute of Technology are $56,719, but some majors have different tuition rates.

Duke University is a fairly large school located in Durham, North Carolina that handed out 109 masters’s EE degrees in 2019-2020.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around if you attend Northwestern University. The school came in at #4 for the Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k. Northwestern is located in Evanston, Illinois and, has a large student population. In 2019-2020, this school awarded 20 masters’s EE degrees to qualified students.

Washington University in St Louis landed the #7 spot on the 2022 Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k ranking. WUSTL is a private not-for-profit institution located in Saint Louis, Missouri. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 95 masters’s degrees in 2019-2020.

University of Florida ranked #15 on this year’s Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k list. This large school is located in Gainesville, Florida, and it awarded 127 masters’s EE degrees in 2019-2020.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign ranked #20 on this year’s Best Value EE Schools for a Master’s For Those Making $30-$48k list. Champaign, Illinois is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out masters’s EE degrees to 186 students in 2019-2020.
