In 2019-2020, 30,670 people earned their degree in electrical engineering, making the major the 31st most popular in the United States. In 2017-2018, electrical engineering graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $70,098 and had an average of $23,581 in loans still to pay off.

Across the Southwest region, there were 3,947 electrical engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $69,637 and $22,172 respectively. At the bachelor’s degree level specifically, there were 2,530 electrical engineering graduates with average earnings and debt of $38,896 and $23,899 respectively.

This year’s “Best Value EE Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region For Those Getting Aid” ranking analyzed 36 colleges that offered a degree in electrical engineering. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality electrical engineering programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.

Out of the 36 schools in the Best Value EE Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region For Those Getting Aid that were part of this year’s ranking, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley landed the #1 spot on the list. UT Rio Grande Valley is a large school located in Edinburg, Texas that handed out 64 bachelors’s EE degrees in 2019-2020.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend The University of Texas at Austin. It ranked #2 on our 2022 Best Value EE Schools for a Bachelor’s in the Southwest Region For Those Getting Aid list. Austin, Texas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out bachelors’s EE degrees to 359 students in 2019-2020.

UT Austin also took the #1 spot in our “Best Electrical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region” ranking. It costs about $18,023 for Southwest Region Bachelor’s Degree EE students with aid per year to attend UT Austin.
