Chemistry is the 44th most popular major in the country with 21,951 degrees awarded in 2019-2020. In 2017-2018, chemistry graduates who were awarded their degree in 2015-2017, earned an average of $38,704 and had an average of $22,279 in loans still to pay off.

Across the New England region, there were 1,316 chemistry graduates with average earnings and debt of $43,920 and $23,758 respectively. At the doctor’s degree level specifically, there were 240 chemistry graduates with average earnings and debt of $73,889 and $109,372 respectively.

For this year’s “Best Value Chemistry Schools for a Doctorate in the New England Region” ranking, we looked at 14 colleges that offer a degree in chemistry. This ranking identifies schools with high-quality chemistry programs that also have a lower cost than schools of similar quality.
